The Mountains in Autumn...
We just love the beautiful mountains of the Eastern U.S., and have made numerous trips by
car and airplane to see them in their splendor.
|

A Breathtaking Overlook
If it wasn't obvious before as to why we love the mountains, it should be after seeing this photo.
We took some of these pictures while driving through the mountains with our friends in NC. We were
all amazed with this sampling of vistas, and were treated to some of the best we ever saw!
We are sure it has to do with the weather from Spring through Autumn, and this was a perfect year!
If what we hear is true, the wet Summer and cool Autumn sets up a great display of color for us.

Toccoa Falls
We always wondered what was used to capture such a deep blue skies in scenic photos we see.
Well, there are no special filters used here. This is taken using a simple camera that
has no such features or options. The day really was this beautiful!
A Plaque was dedicated to the those who lost their lives in the 1970's when a dam broke upstream,
and floods rushed over these falls. As we read the names there, we see how whole families
were taken in the tragic event. On this particular year, these falls were narrower than usual
because of below-normal rainfall that summer.

Flying to the Mountains...
Yes, I took this out the window of the plane on one of our trips! The mountains are
getting closer, FASTER this way. It is unnerving to say the least, but the drive is too
tough for us anymore.
We avoid a lot of things that were a problem before. We don't have to leave the house
so early, and we don't have to deal with some of the worst traffic
and contruction area slow−downs..

A Rail Bridge used as a Footbridge
Whlie walking down a mountain trail, we came upon the great little bridge! It had rails on it,
but this was definately a foot path now. It seems a lot of these trails are older than we might gather.
I am not sure now, but I don't think we had rails along the whole trail. Anyway, this was a beautiful walk
along this trail in the park.

Just Around the Turn...
On our drive through the mountains, we see more and more beauty around every turn!
If we lived here, we would be overwhelmed every time we looked out the window, or drove to work!
There is beauty in the Winter season as well, but I am as sure that we would not like having to
drive to work or out to the store for provisions on the dangerous snow covered roads.

Tallulah Gorge
I held onto my husband's belt as he leaned over to take this shot! We knew better than
to trust our life to a railing. As we looked at this scene, we knew we wanted to be able to
recall it in our photos.
It is hard to show how deep the gorge is any other way. The Indians have been generally afraid
to venture into this gorge because they say it is haunted. It was here that the movie
"Deliverance" was filmed.
Around Another Turn...
Along the road we are treated to yet more beautiful scenes.
I cannot describe the look on the faces of friends as we drove through these mountains,
because they did not grow up around such scenery. They spent their earlier years in Florida
where we met them. It was a special treat for them as much as it was for us.

A Walk in the Woods
A short walk into the woods from the road nets a peaceful scene that is totally relaxing.
It is easy to forget all the hectic bustle of the world when all you hear is the cool breeze in the trees,
and the joyful song of native birds.
It is clear we would benefit from a lot of time spent in places like this. We feel our nerves being soothed
immediately from the serenity of this environment.
Brilliant Autumn Colors
What a way to cap off a scenic drive in the mountains! After driving many miles through resplendant scenes,
we are treated to this display of nature.
In "The September Song," we are told of how Autumn weather turns the leaves
into flame. I am sure this is what the writer had in mind as he penned that phrase.
Don't miss our other Photos!
